Our Schools, Our Communities.

This summer, we're sharing some of the programs, traditions and experiences that help make Davis School District schools unique.

Today we're featuring Creekside Elementary.

Belonging is at the heart of Creekside Elementary's Peer Mentor Program. This year, student mentors completed thousands of visits supporting their peers, helping build friendships, improve attendance and create a welcoming school community where every student feels connected and included.

Read a Thon
Summer reading is in full swing at Creekside Elementary, where nearly 50 people, including students, siblings and parents, visit the library each week to check out books and enjoy a hands-on craft or activity.

The program supports the Davis Reads 45 Days of Summer challenge, encouraging students to read at least 45 days during the break. For every five days of reading, students earn a 3D-printed book charm. Those who collect all nine charms will be invited to a special activity after school begins.

"I love exploring different perspectives and adventures through a good book," librarian Cindy Twede said.

Creekside Elementary encourages people everywhere to read during the summer. The act of reading helps keep students' minds active, reduces the "summer slide" and builds lifelong habits of learning, It is also a chance for students to choose books they enjoy and discover that reading can be fun.

The summer reading program will wrap up with a Read-a-thon Luau on Aug. 6. Families are invited to celebrate a summer filled with books, reading and learning.

Join Davis Reads 45 this summer! Students are challenged to read for 45 days, earning prizes every 5 days and a special end-of-summer event for those who complete the challenge. Pick up books during summer library hours. Families should check with their local elementary school for specific days and times. Regular summer reading helps prevent learning loss and supports continued academic growth. Contact your school or library to get started!

Applications Now Open for the 2026–2027 VEX IQ Robotics Team!

2026-27 Creekside VEX IQ Robotics Team Application: Due by Wednesday, 5/13/2026 – Fill out form

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Peace hpeace@dsdmail.net

We are excited to invite next year's 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to join our VEX IQ Robotics Team for the upcoming school year! We will be forming two teams:

Competitive Team – Meets Thursdays after school from August to April
Non-Competitive Team – Meets Tuesdays after school from August to December
Both teams offer a fantastic opportunity to develop robotics and coding skills while having fun at school and during competitions. Our competitions are held on Saturdays throughout the year. The Competitive Team will attend at least three competitions, while the Non-Competitive Team will participate in one or two scrimmages in November and December.

Things to Consider:

The fee for the 2026–2027 season is $75.
A summer camp for the Competitive Team will be held during the week of August 3rd–6th and is included in the cost of registration.
Students must commit to the entire season:
Competitive Team: August through April
Non-Competitive Team: August through December
Some students on the Non-Competitive Team may be invited to join the Competitive Team if space becomes available.
VEX is an excellent after-school program that helps students build real-world skills in robotics and coding—all while having fun and learning teamwork!

This program is made possible through funding from the STEM Action Center of Utah, registration fees, fundraising efforts, and the dedicated support of numerous staff members, community volunteers, and parents.
